Man held for defaming female colleague on Social Media after she rejected his proposal

Sleuths from the Cyber Cell of Pune city police Crime Branch have nabbed a 42-year-old man for allegedly creating several fake accounts of his woman colleague on Facebook, and sent obscene messages.

During the investigation police found that the accused used had one-side love with the lady and she had spurned his proposal, hence to teach her a lesson he defamed her on social media.

The accused has been identified as Neil George, a resident of Wanowrie. The woman from Hadapsar had approached the Cyber Cell after she learned about her fake accounts.

A team led by Police Inspector Radhika Phadke investigated the case under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Cybercrime & EOW) Jyotipriya Singh.

According to police, the accused had illegally accessed her email account and got her photos. He used them to create her several fake accounts on Facebook. From one of the accounts, he sent messages to the wife of the complainant’s male friend, which created the rift between them. It was then that the woman lodged a complaint. After a preliminary inquiry, police traced the accused who had created the fake accounts and he was identified as George.

He told police that to take revenge for rejecting his proposal, he created the fake accounts. Now he has been handed over to Hadapsar police station for further action against him.

The investigation team included ACP Sameer Shaikh, PSI Manda Nevse, and constables Jyoti Diwane and Bhushan Shelar.
