Mahabaleshwar-Poladpur Road Accident: NDRF strikes late on spot

On Saturday morning, tremendous accident took place on Mahabaleshwar-Poladpur road. A bus carrying 34 people which included 32 employees of Dr Balasaheb Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth and two bus drivers.

33 passengers have died in this accident. Bus had fell into 800 ft. deep valley. According to the information given by the only survivor of this accident, Prakash Sawant Desai, the accident took place at around 10.30 in morning near Aambenali valley. The bus tyre had slipped in a pile of mud on the left side of the road. At first he didn’t understand what was happening, but he anyhow managed to jump out of the bus and came upside.

Prakash got the phone from a group of people near the accident spot. One person from that group gave him a phone and they all left for Mumbai. First call he made to his friend Ajit as he remembered only his number and then he contacted area police.

State government has announced Rs 4 lakh compensation to deceased’s families. The dead-bodies have been taken to the Rural Hospital of Poladpur. 17 dead-bodies has found till now, police are investigating further with the help of Mahabaleshwar Trekkers and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team.

According to a local source, it is informed that there are still few dead-bodies under the bus debris. Due to rain and slippery surface, it is being late to get the dead-bodies out. Between all these, NDRF team even reached the spot at 4 pm and they did not have 500 ft. long rope which created another problem.
