M.S.Dhoni was heartbroken: Sanjay Manjrekar

Npnews24 online: Former Indian cricketer-turned commentator Sanjay Manjrekar empathised with MS Dhoni after Chennai Super Kings suffered a hearbrekaing 1-run defeat in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 final to defeat Mumbai Indians.

Manjrekar was hosting the post-match ceremony after the big final, also said he has never seen Dhoni as heartbroken as he was on Sunday evening.MS Dhoni’s men needed just 9 runs in the final over of a 150-run chase against Mumbai Indians to defend their IPL title. With Shane Watson, who was dropped 3 times on the big night, going steady in the final over odds were stacked in favour of Chennai Super Kings.

Mumbai Indians went with Lasith Malinga for the last over even after the veteran Sri Lanka pacer conceded 42 runs in his first 3 overs in the final. Nonetheless, Malinga and MI held their nerves better as they defended 9 runs successfully in the final over.

CSK lost the wicket of n Shane Watsoon 80 to a run out in the last over before Shardul Thakur was trapped LBW when they needed just 2 runs from the last ball.

It was so near yet so far for Chennai Super Kings as Mumbai Indians edged past CSK to become the first side to win four Indian Premier League titles. Sunday’s match was also the 5th defeat in 8 finals for Dhoni’s men.”My heart went out to Dhoni speaking to him in the post-match, he seemed really heartbroken. Never seen him like that before,” Sanjay Manjrekar wrote on Twitter.
