Installed HSRP to help in tracing stolen vehicle?

New Delhi: NP NEWS 24 ONLINE: On Thursday, the government declared, all new vehicles will come fitted with high-security registration plates (HSRP) from April 2019.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has notified amendments in the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 to this effect.

The order states that buyers won’t have to pay extra. The cost of the plates will be included in the vehicle’s price – and that manufacturers will need to replace them free of cost in case they become old within 5 years of sale.

As part of guidelines, the transport ministry said stickers on windscreens — “In the form of the third registration plate” which will be light blue color for petrol and CNG vehicles and orange for diesel.

Diesel vehicles are regarded to have higher particulate matter emissions, while CNG cars are considered the least polluting among the three.

According to the Road Transport Ministry ,”This step is likely to improve the coverage of HSRP on vehicles, while ensuring its quality by the vehicle manufacturers. The HSRP helps in keeping track of the vehicle, and makes it easier to trace a lost or stolen vehicle.”

The Delhi transport department in October made it mandatory for vehicles registered between January 2011 and April 2012 in Delhi to get high security registration plates installed by authorized vendors of the transport department.

The security features include: chromium based hot-stamped hologram along with an image of the Ashoka Chakra; retro-reflective film, bearing a verification inscription ‘India’ at 45 degree inclination; and the permanent identification number of minimum 7 digits which will be laser branded into the reflective sheeting on the bottom-hand side of the registration plate. In addition it will also include tamper proof non-removable/non-reusable snap locks. Any attempt to remove the plates will simply result in their breakage.
