CM Fadnavis does ‘mahapuja’ in Pandharpur

NPnews24 Online Pandharpur: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, along with his wife Amruta, on Friday, did the ‘mahapuja’ of Lord Vitthal and Goddess Rukmini on `Ashadhi Ekadashi’ in Pandharpur.

Warkari Vithal Chavan and his wife Prayag performed the puja with the chief minister and his wife.
The CM had skipped the puja last year.

Speaking after the puja, the chief minister said, “I prayed to Vithoba to make the State free from drought,” he said.

Its customary for the sitting chief minister to perform the  puja every year. Fadnavis told reporters that he had prayed for good rains in the State.


Ashadhi Ekadashi marks the end of the annual pilgrimage to Pandharpur by the devotees.  Devotees set out for Pandharpur on foot every year.

It is a tradition of faith which began from around AD 1685.  The 21-day journey ends at the Lord Vitthal temple in Pandharpur which is located on the banks of river Chandrabhaga.

The Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi journey from Pune had started on June 24 and the Sant Dnyaneshawar Palkhi journey from Alandi began in June 25.
