There has been a lot of debate on whether the North Karnataka was neglected in the recent budget. to calm the citizen down and satisfy them Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy on Tuesday promised to alleviate Belgaum as the second capital of the city. He also promised to shift some of the government departments to the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha (SVS) a secretive building located in Belgaum.

Kumaraswamy told the media,

“I had actually suggested this 12 years ago but the government which followed did not take it seriously. That is why we suggested the Suvarna Soudha be built there and why we have the legislative session there. The BJP is just making an issue now. In 15-20 days, I will make an announcement. I am also looking to make Mangaluru the economic capital,”

When did the issue was raised –

In 2006, when Janta Dal (JD) was in power with BJP, the state government decided to support the decision of declaring Belgaum as the second capital.

When CM Kumaraswamy came to power, this time with Congress unveiled the budget in July, it was highly criticized claiming that it was inclined towards the southern part of the state. As JD has more followers winning most of the seas from that region.

The opposition raises their voice –

The BJP (opposition) is highly disapproving of the July Budget. The former CM BS Yeddyurappa also raise his voice and blamed Mr. Kumaraswamy over north Karnataka. One of the BJP leaders, B Sriramulu wanted the ruling government that the issue of second capital raised while the decision of budget because the north was neglected. Although Sriramulu later stated that he does not favor the separation.

The Protest –

A dominant community from the northern region the Lingayat seers actively protesting and demanding for the separation. They gathered in front of the Suvarna Soudha in Belgaum on Tuesday. Reportedly, this community is in support of BJP and has a significantly large number the region.

Accusation –

More followers of the ruling government in the southern region. The ruling alliance is accused of giving importance to the northern leaders only when it comes to the Shadow Cabinet (Cabinet portfolio.)

Both the Chief Minister and his deputy G Parameshwara are from the southern part of the state. Plus main leaders former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and state party chief Dinesh Gundu Rao belongs to the south as well.

Back in 2012, the northern side, the area near Hyderabad region was predominantly looked over for development purposes. But if other regions are considered from the north they are slightly underdeveloped as compared to the southern side, which also prosperous in many aspects.
