5 children escape shelter home through washroom window

BHUBNESHWAR: NP NEWS 24 ONLINE- Sneaking out from hostels and shelter home for parties or other things are quite common but escaping a shelter home through a washroom window is something we only see in movies or read in books, but a shocking incident just came in light after around 5 minors from a shelter home in Bhubaneshwar.

On 31st December, night the children broke the grill of the bathroom and escaped from the shelter home according to the police officials. Meanwhile, the shelter home authorities have lodged a complaint with the Lingaraj Police Station in this regard. And the police have launched a search operation to trace the missing children. The police are also interrogating the officials of the shelter home regarding security arrangements of children in the home.

Surprisingly, the children successfully evaded CCTV cameras and the 24-hour security while fleeing from the home. Apparently, on May 1, 2017, 11 children from the same shelter home had escaped by breaking open two ventilators of the bathroom.

In a similar case reported from Delhi in December 2018, nine minor girls went missing from a shelter home in the east Delhi area. The Delhi Police had registered a missing report in this connection and the Delhi Commission of Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal wrote a letter to Sisodia stating that nine girls have gone missing from Sanskar Ashram for Girls (SAG) in Dilshad Garden on the intervening night of December 1 and 2.

This not only raises questions regarding the security of the shelter home, but also raises concern over is something wrong going on in the shelter home that children are escaping frequently. How trustworthy are shelter homes? Who will take the responsibility of the missing children?
