200 Bullet riders fined for modifying silencers

To inculcate traffic sense among Puneites, the traffic branch of the Pune city police has launched special drive.

On Monday, 919 drivers were penalized and Rs 2.54 lakhs fine were collected for violation of various rules under the Motor Vehicle Act.

The special drive was conducted on the instructions of newly appointed Commissioner of Police Dr K Venkatesham. The actions were taken under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.

Police officials said that the drive was conducted various traffic divisions in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad areas.

People who have modified silencers of their Bullet motorcycles were targeted in large number as they have been creating lot of noise. A total of 200 riders were fined as they had modified silencers of their Bullet motorcycles and creating unnecessary noise while riding. Police have collected Rs 1.2 lakhs fine from them.

Triple seat riding is a menace in Pune and youths are seen riding triple seats keeping traffic rules at bay. A total of Rs 42,000 has been collected from 265 persons for triple seat riding. Also cops used jammers on vehicles of 418 persons and collected Rs 69,400 as they had parked their vehicles in no-parking zones which created obstruction in smooth flow of traffic.

A total of Rs 23,100 was collected from 36 persons for rash driving using racing bikes. In case of minors, their guardians were fined.

Police have appealed citizens to follow traffic rules and support traffic police in maintaining discipline on road.

It has been observed that most people violate traffic rules as and when they get a chance. There are about 36 lakhs vehicles in Pune city only which leads to traffic jam in the absence of wide roads and flyover in the interior parts of the city. And this problem is compounded as people do not follow traffic rules, hence there is a need to bring discipline on the road.

It can be possible only if people and police work together.
