20 years and 3 lakh plus farmers commit suicides

NP NEWS 24 ONLINE- The country of India has been witnessing dreadful condition of farmers, followed by which protests and later suicides since many years. Every now and then the scenario of farmers are getting worse in the country.

Yet again, farmers are out on the streets of country’s capital Delhi showing their anger, pain and frustration demanding for their rights. Not only the farmers themselves, but the National Crime Records Bureau(NCRB) also present the figures about the their troublesome situations.

According to the information given to Lok Sabha, every year around 12 thousand farmers commit suicide. In last twenty years, 3 lakh farmers have committed suicide till date due to financial crisis. Initially, such news of farmers  committing suicides was not heard from states like Punjab, U.P, etc but now scenario seems to be changed.

According to the figures by the government, in 20 years, 3 lakh farmers have committed suicides. Between year 1997-2006, a total of about 1,66,304 farmers have committed suicide. After the liberalization in 1991, such incidents have increased much more. Also, according to NCRB, in year 2008, 16,196 and in year 2009,  17,368 farmers committed suicides. The condition has become more dreadful since 2004 onwards.

The prime areas of country which remain in news due to suicides of farmers are Marathwada area in Maharashtra. And, states like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh have been in news.

According to the 2001 census, a shocking revelation has been made according to which, in past ten years, around 71 lakh farmers left quit the job of farming considering it to be nothing but a land deal.

As per an affidavit submitted in Supreme Court, Central Court has agreed to the fact that around 12, 602 farmers are committing suicide each year, out of which 8,007 are farmers and about 4,595 are agricultural labours.

In year 2014, 12,360, in 2015, 12,602 and in 2016, 11,370 farmers have committed suicides.
