2 held for possession of 165 kg of Ganja worth Rs 31 lakh

NPnews24 Online Pune: The officials of Pune Customs Narcotics Cell have arrested two persons for possessing 165 kg of Ganja on Ahmednagar Kalyan Highway. The Ganja is valued at Rs 31 lakh.

Acting on a tip-off regarding trafficking of narcotics, officials of the Customs Narcotics Cell kept a close watch near Dombarwadi Toll Naka on the highway.
The officials intercepted a car and after searching it, recovered 165 kg of Ganja stored in seven plastic bags. The police also arrested two persons in the case.

The accused have been identified as Ankush Bheemrao Pandule, a resident of Ashti in Reed and Nitin Piraji Ambekar, a resident of Ulhasnagar in Thane.
After being found with the Ganja, the two individuals confessed to the crime of procurement and transportation of Ganja for sale in Badlapur in Mumbai. The accused were arrested and produced before NDPS Court in Khed, Pune.

The contraband Ganja in the aforesaid case valued at Rs 31 lakh, alongwith the aforesaid vehicles valued at Rs 22 lakh. The items have all been seized under panchnama for contravention of the provisions of NDPS Act 1985.

Based on the inputs revealed by the two accused persons during investigation regarding supplier and the receiver of the seized Ganja, Pune Customs officials are conducting a further investigation.

The mandate of the Customs Preventive is to nab the economic offenders involved in the evasion of Customs duty and criminals engaged in the activity of trafficking of narcotics drugs and psychotropic substances.
