Youngsters learnt disaster management lessons for upcoming Ganesh Utsav

‘Ganesh Festival’ is one of the biggest festivals in Maharashtra. People seem very excited about it, as this festival is just a few days away. This festival brings all people together, which make a huge crowd. But most of the time senior citizens, women, and children have to suffer because of the crowd. So it’s everyone ’s responsibility to take care and learn how to handle disasters occurred due to crowed in festivals.

‘A youngster falls down suddenly at Sir Parshurambhau’s Lady Ramabai Hall. ‘Call the ambulance’, someone said from the crowd. Everyone was thinking like- what should we do till the ambulance come? And at the same time, some youngsters came forward and they started doing the first aid treatment. As soon as the ambulance arrived and they kept that young man on the stretcher and helped to reach him to hospital.’ Now, you may think, this incident which properly handled by youngsters, happened really,  but in fact, it was just experimenting with learning disaster management and medical services in Pune.

Disaster management and medical service training were provided to Amhi Punekar, Fourth Manacha Ganapati- Tulsibagh Ganpati Mandal, Hutatma Babugenu Mandal, Gajlakshmi Dhol-Tasha Pathak (Squad), Ichhapurti Ganesh Mandal’s Dhol-Tasha pathak, Police officers, Workers of Ganeshotsav Mandals, Firefighters, Mountaineers and journalists, for upcoming  Ganesh Utsav.

Mayor Mukta Tilak, Additional Collector of SrinagarSagar Doifode, Rajendra Jagtap, Umesh Zirpe, Dilip Sheth, Manoj Pandit, Vivek Khatavkar, Balasaheb Maarane, Ketan Deshpande, Hemant Jadhav, Corporators Yogesh Samel, Vedavyas More, Priyanka Jawale, Arvind Jade and were present. BVG’s Society of Emergency Medical Services (Dial 108) has actively participated in the program, which was held at Lady Ramabai Hall, S.P. College. Shailesh Guzar did anchoring for this program.

Mukta Tilak said, “Not only our citizens but foreign citizens also have the attraction of Ganesh festival in Pune. So it is your job to help all the people coming from outside. There is always the big crowd at the festivals, thus senior citizens, pregnant women, and children have to suffer. Most of the people do not know what to do in the big crowd if there is a problem. Therefore, disaster management and medical service training definitely benefit during the festival.

Dr. Sagar Doifode said, there are two types of disasters -natural and man-made. It is important to save a person’s life. Working in disaster management is not just government work, So, the people’s participation is the important thing.”  Rajarshi Shahu Pratisthan, Rajmudra Pathak, Gajlakshmi Pathak, Tulshibag Mandal, Garud Ganapati Mandal, Shivsuriya Pratishthan, Deshmukh Ganesh Mandir, Srujan Institute and various teams, Pathaks and organizations have participated in the training. The mountaineers who have helped in an accident of Poladpur Ghat and first aid boxes have been given to manadals.
