Tribal girl hangs herself after allegedly strip searched

NP NEWS 24 ONLINE: CHHAISGARH:  As the exam fever is in the air, a tragic incident was reported in Jashpur, Chhattisgarh, where a tribal girl who was giving her Class 10 board examinations, committed suicide after being allegedly strip searched just before her exam. She was allegedly strip searched on suspicion of carrying chits in the examination hall, but was found innocent by the inspecting officials.

The incident sparked panic among hundreds of students and their parents and addressing the matter, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of the district, Ravi Mittal gave assurance that they are investigating the incident and students do not have to worry anymore.

According to the reports, the girl was perturbed after a strip search occurred at her Class 10 board examination centre and kept repeating “I will die if this was to happen to me” after returning from her exam.

Her parents initially thought that she had a bad paper and was making excuses. After which they scolded her and told her to concentrate on the remaining papers and she kept mum for the next two days. However, she went missing soon after that and her body was found hanging from a tree on the next day.

There are conflicting reports and  that she wasn’t among the students who were strip searched. Moreover, it was reported that a lot of time was wasted for the students as they were moved from one room to the other while the inspection was being carried out.
