This Dasheera flower prices low

Pune: NP NEWS 24 ONLINE -Though the commoner citizen will not have to pitch more to their pocket during the festive occasion of Dasheera for Marigold and Shevanti but will hamper the farmer as due to excessive supply of flowers in the Pune market.

This year Navratri has kickstarted on 10th October and will end on 18th of October. Nine manifestations of Durga are worshipped on each day of Navratri. On the tenth day, idols of the goddess are immersed in water bodies. On this day, Dusshera is also celebrated which marks the victory of good over evil. In West Bengal, last five days of Navratri are celebrated as Durga Puja. People go for pandal hopping, wear new clothes, chant bhajans, sing folk songs and enjoy social gatherings. In Maha Navaratri, offering flowers to nine different Goddesses holds special significance.

The sale this festive season of flowers seems to have gone down by 60 percent claims the committee which supplies the agricultural produce market committee (APMC) based in Pune.

Last year, the Marigold was sold at Rs 75-Rs 110 per kilogram (kg) in 2017 and the cost reduced to Rs 50 to Rs 60 per kg this year. Chrysanthemums (shevanti) was sold at ₹100-₹200 per kilogram in 2017 and the cost reduced to ₹20-₹100 in 2018.

Speaking with NPNEWS24, flower merchant Ganesh Vijay Aher said, “This year, the business of flower has gone down more than 50 percent as in market in huge quantity the supply has increased and demand is less. As in morning the kilograms began with Rs 30 per kgs and Shewanti was Rs 45 per kgs but in the evening the amounts have increased by Rs 20 per kgs of each flower. We are hoping for a good response.”

While another florist shop in Mandai  Balashaheb Raut said, “the market is good to let see, for farmer, it’s a good market as they have supplied in huge quantity to us but shopkeeper like us is facing the issue if the market goes a bit down. Thou the prices are in below Rs 100 the supply of flowers will be more as such flowers if not taken by anyone the next day will go waste. So let see.”
