PUNE: Vishal Chaudhari- India is known for its variety of culture and its festivals which are celebrated throughout the year. Every festival has its own specialty and unique way of celebration. Diwali is one of the biggest festivals of India, which is celebrated by nationwide.

Along with the lightning,  bursting the firecrackers is the specialty of this festival. Right from small children to senior citizens are seen bursting various types of firecrackers in this season. Since every particular occasion has its own positive and negative aspects, so along with great enthusiasm and zeal in people, this festival also causes much of noise pollution environmental losses and physical accidents due to the fireworks.

While celebrating this festival, Most of the time people (especially children) tend to avoid the safety measures due to their over-excitement. Every year, the huge number of people got seriously injured due to the mishandling of firecrackers. Sometimes, they have to lose their body parts permanently because of over burning in an accident.

This year, it has been observed that the number of accidents leading due to the bursting of firecrackers has decreased, possibly due to the time foundation to burst firecrackers set by the Supreme Court (SC).

Every year, many patients affected due to such accidents visit the doctors. But, according to a doctor in Pune based hospital the number has decreased comparatively to the last year.

According to the data, patients from various parts of Pune city come to the Pune based Sassoon hospital to undergo treatment. Compared to the accidents in the year of 2017, the number of accidents due to crackers has been declined by 50% this year.

“Due to the time limitation set by the Supreme Court for firecrackers, the number of accidents decreased by 50%. In the near future is such strict laws are practiced in India, not only pollution will be in control also health hazards could be reduced”, said by the dean of the governor of the B J Government Medical College and Sassoon Hospital.
