Mumbai : Are some postures of sexual intercourse better than others? You may have heard that some sexual intercourse postures are better than others to get pregnant. For example, the missionary position (where the man is above the woman) is considered better than other postures. However, no evidence exists for the basis of these prevailing beliefs. Experts have not yet researched this topic.

This research tested two positions of sexual intercourse, first when your husband is on you and second doggy style pose, when you are on your hands and knees and your husband enters from behind. Common sense says that these postures penetrate deeply and the sperm also reach directly to the cervix.

The MRI scan shows that in both these positions of sexual intercourse, the penis reaches the empty space between the wall of the cervix and the vagina. In the missionary position, it is ensured that the penis reaches the empty space in front of the cervix.  At the same, in the position of penetration from the back, the penis reaches the empty space behind the cervix.
