The Paani Foundation’s results for the Water Cup tournament were announced on August 12. The program was organized in Pune, where Raj Thackeray was also present.

Several leaders including Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis, Ajit Pawar, Ashok Chavan and others were also present for this program. Raj Thackeray attacked the government over the issue of irrigation.

In his five minute’s speech, Raj Thackeray questioned the present and the previous government about the irrigation money. He also said that both the past and present governments are here right now, they must answer the public.

Water conservation works are done by private and social organizations. Government has appointed officials for these works then why they do not do their jobs.

While praising Aamir Khan, Raj Thackrey said, “Aamir Khan has not accepted any award till date neither he goes to any award ceremonies. But he must take the Magsaysay Award.”

Public who were present at the program requested Raj Thackrey to do Shram Daan which is the part of Paani Foundation’s water conservation work. Following this request of citizens, Raj Thackeray promised to come for Shram Daan next year.

Raj Thackrey, who was in Pune on the award ceremony of Paani Foundation’s Satyamev Jayate Water Cup, addressed the public and attacked the government on irrigation department issues.

Though on the other end, the Centre said that it is working to make Maharashtra’s arid regions ‘drought-proof’ in the next five years. For this, it has approved a special package of Rs 13,651 crore.

The funds will be used to complete 83 minor and eight major and medium irrigation projects of Marathwada, Vidarbha and drought-prone areas elsewhere in the state.

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had said, “This package is a great boost to Vidarbha, Marathwada and drought-prone areas of Maharashtra. The central government has agreed to give us a National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) loan.”

These projects will be significant, especially for the two regions which have reeled under severe drought in 2012 and 2016. Groundwater availability is not adequate in Marathwada and Vidarbha beyond the rainy season.
