Pune Water Supply | Municipal Negligence: Water Supply Disruption Leaves Citizens in Pune Frustrated

Pune : Pune Water Supply | For the second consecutive day, residents in Sinhagad Road, Katraj, and Kondhwa areas were left without water due to the municipality’s failure to complete maintenance work at the Vadgaon Water Purification Center. Approximately six lakh citizens were affected by the sudden disruption, with no prior notice or information provided by the municipal water supply department.

On Thursday, the Municipal Corporation had scheduled electrical-pumping and architectural emergency maintenance repair work at the Vadgaon Jalkendra and Rajiv Gandhi Pumping Station. As a result, water supply was stopped in the affected areas. However, what was supposed to be a timely repair turned into a prolonged delay, leaving citizens without water for an extended period.

The maintenance work began on Thursday and continued throughout the day and late into the night. However, it was discovered during the night that two valves were faulty, prompting technicians to undertake additional repairs. The anticipated completion time of 9 am on Friday was further delayed, extending until three o’clock in the afternoon. Consequently, water supply could only be restored after this extended delay.

The areas affected by the water supply disruption included Hingane, Anandnagar, Vadgaon, Dhairi, Ambegaonpathar, Dattanagar, Dhankawadi, Katraj, Bharti Vidyapeeth Campus, Kondhwa Budruk, Ambegaon Khurd, Ambegaon Budruk, Yevlewadi, Sahkarnagar Part-2, Ambedkarnagar, Tilaknagar Complex, and Date Bus Stop Complex.

This incident has raised suspicions among citizens regarding the municipality’s management of such critical infrastructure. The recurrent disruptions in water supply, particularly in the name of repairs, have led to doubts about the municipality’s intentions. Citizens are questioning whether these disruptions are deliberately orchestrated or a result of mismanagement.

Furthermore, the lack of concrete answers and transparency from the municipal water supply department has further added to the frustration of citizens. Many have reported receiving vague responses when contacting the department regarding the water supply issue. Such insensitivity displayed by municipal employees has fueled citizens’ dissatisfaction and raised concerns about the administration’s handling of essential services like water supply.
