Pune: Trouble for ACP Mugutlal Patil in bribery case

Police officer allegedly demanded Rs 5 lakh to not register a cheating case

Pune / Pimpri: Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mugutlal Patil, attached to the Dehu Road division in the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate, faces an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) inquiry in a bribery case. A man has been arrested by the ACB while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh on behalf of ACP Patil to not register a cheating case.

The arrested accused has been identified as Omkar Bharat Jadhav (31), a resident of Akole taluka of Ahmednagar district. He works as a driver. He has been acquainted with ACP Patil for a long time.

ACP Patil had received a complaint against the complainant. The complainant had demanded registration of a cheating case with regard to a land on Katraj-Kondhwa bypass. Patil was looking into the case.

The complainant approached the ACB allegedly as ACP Patil demanded Rs 5 lakh through Jadhav to help him in the case. The ACB verified the complaint. Jadhav was arrested after laying a track on the premises of a private hospital on bund Garden Road while accepting the first instalment of the bribe. The action was taken under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Amol Tambe, Additional Superintendent of Police Dr Shital Janve.

Primary investigation revealed that accused Jadhav demanded the bribe on ACP Patil’s instructions. Once the investigation is completed, the ACB would decide whether to file a case against ACP Patil, said Investigation Officer and Deputy Superintendent of Police Nitin Jadhav.
