Pune surgeon, driver killed in road accident on E-way

Np News 24  Pune: A famous spine surgeon and his cab driver were killed in a road accident on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.  The police informed that the accident took place near Somatane village at around 10 pm on Sunday night.

The deceased Dr Ketan Khurjekar, 44, a spine surgeon, was on his way to Pune from Mumbai in a cab with two other doctors when the mishap took place.  The car got punctured and so the doctor, driver and two others got down from it and were changing the type when a private bus hit the car from behind.

The driver and Khurjekar died on the spot.

The other two doctors are undergoing treatment at Sancheti Hospital in Pune.  The bodies of the deceased were handed over to their families.  The bus passengers did not suffer any injuries.

The driver fled after the accident and police are searching for him now.

Dr Khurjekar was the Chief Spine Surgeon at Sancheti Hospital.  The doctors in the city have expressed condolences and grief over his tragic passing away.
