Pune : Pune Service Roads Along Highway | The accumulation of rainwater and poor drainage systems have led to severe waterlogging on the service roads along the highway in Pune. As a result, vehicles are getting stuck in knee-deep water, especially during nighttime when off-road lights make it difficult to navigate. Pedestrians are also facing difficulties as footpaths are submerged, forcing them to walk through puddles.
Abhijit Dagde Patil, Vice President of the Nationalist Youth Congress, has demanded immediate action from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to address the road conditions.
With narrow, potholed, and waterlogged service roads along the national highway, drivers are questioning where they can safely travel. The stretch of road from the Bavdhan CNG pump to Bavdhan is particularly problematic, with large potholes and the road resembling a river due to the accumulation of rainwater. Accidents have occurred when vehicles veer into ditches while attempting to navigate through the water. Abhijit Dagde has raised concerns, questioning whether the administration will only take action after a serious accident. He has demanded widening of the service roads on both sides of the highway, installation of street lights, and repairs to the drainage lines.
Areas near the Bavdhan CNG pump, the flyover in front of the True Value showroom, and the road near Puneri Biryani Hotel are experiencing significant water logging issues. Pedestrians are unable to cross the road due to the large amount of water accumulating under the flyover, posing risks for accidents. Citizens are urging authorities to take measures to drain the water and prevent such situations.
The urgent repair of the service roads is crucial, yet the administration seems to be neglecting the issue. Social worker Abhijit Rajendra Dagde Patil emphasized his commitment to addressing citizen’s concerns and ensuring basic services and facilities are provided to them.
