Pune: Police break open lock to rescue locked tenant in Viman Nagar; landlord, broker booked for wrongful confinement

Pune: In Maharashtra’s Pune district a landlord locked a woman tenant in his flat on Sunday. The landlord tried to evict the female tenant without notice after which chaotic scenes were witnessed in the Gulmohar housing society housing society in Pune’s Viman Nagar area. The landlord wrongfully confined the female tenant when she refused to vacate the flat.

The female tenant Slaysha Dixit had to call police for help. When the police reached over there they found out the girl locked in the room. Police had to break open the lock to rescue her.

A case has been registered against the landlord and 3 other people at Vimantal police station. The suspects were identified as Marazban Velati, Naheer Velati, broker Joel Paul and one more. Actually, the owner wanted to give the flat on rent to a relative that is why he wanted to vacate the flat.

The landlord reached to the flat on Sunday when the girl was alone and asked her to vacate immediately. When she refused to do so without any prior notice, so the landlord locked her in the flat in anger.

With the police information, it was found that she was living in that society from the last 3 years and had always paid rent on time. At the time of lockdown when her lease expired, the landlord and broker asked her to live there without any lease, after the lockdown they will get the agreement renewed. The girl locked the door when they were shouting; she was quite scared by the behavior of the landlord. After that they locked the safety door from outside because of which the girl had to call the police for help.

Under section 342(wrongful confinement), 504(intentional insult), 506(criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention) of INDIAN PENAL CODE case is registered which is investigated by Vimantal police.
