Pune PMC News | Decision to buy exotic plants, flowerpots worth Rs 1 cr for G-20 beautification cancelled: Addl Municipal Commissioner Vikas Dhakne
Pune : Pune PMC News | A tender was floated by the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) Garden Department to buy big flowerpots and exotic decorative plants to beautify flyovers and roads on the occasion of G-20 Summit II.
However, the civic administration had doubts about the quoted rates of these flowerpots and plants. Hence, the Rs 1-cr tender has been scrapped.
Chowks, roads and flyovers have been beautified in the city for the G-20 Summit II. As a part of this process, the civic body had floated two tenders to buy big flowerpots and 10-12 ft tall exotic plants to beautify Ahmednagar road and seven flyovers in Baner and Bavdhan areas.
Two separate tenders were floated to ensure that they would not be presented before the Estimates Committee. The media published reports about the inflated rates of the plants and flowerpots. Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar promised that the rates would be verified and only then the purchases would be made.
On enquiries at some nurseries in the city, it was found that there were big discrepancies in the actual and quoted rates. Hence, the process was cancelled. This was revealed by Addl Municipal Commissioner Vikas Dhakne.
Row over tender on illumination on metro railway pillars
The PMC Electricity Department published a tender to illuminate the pillars of metro railway within the limits of Dhole-Patil ward office on June 9. The term of the tender is ending on June 16. However, the department carried out the illumination on Sunday, June 10. The tender for this purpose is worth Rs 49.83 lakh. The department’s haste to complete the work even before receiving bids raised doubts.
When contacted, PMC Electricity Department Chief Engineer Srinivas Bonala said that some changes were made to processes of some works at the last moment. The pillar illumination work is a part of the beautification of the city. There are only two contractors doing such work. Their billing will be done at a less rate than quoted by them.
