Vikas Dhakne said that the state government has announced granting of funds of ₹200 crore for Katraj-Kondhwa road work. The work of the road is pending for a long time due to lack of land acquisition and the road is known for traffic jams and accidents. Against this background, the PMC is constantly contacting land owners for acquiring their land and many of them have offered to hand over their land. Meanwhile, the biggest land parcel required on the stretch from Katraj Chowk to Khadi Machine Chowk belongs to businessman Prakash Dhariwal. Sixty gunthas of land owned by him will have to be acquired. The PMC contacted them and explained the situation. Dhariwal immediately agreed to hand over the land to the PMC without any conditions. The civic body has completed the paper work of acquiring the land and has started the work from Tuesday.

At present, levelling is being carried on the road and murum will be put on the road and it will be prepared as an alternative to Kanha Hotel Chowk to Khadi Machine Chowk road. Heavy vehicles can ply on the road and the repairs of the old road can be undertaken. This will prevent traffic jams. Talks are underway with other landowners and there is a positive response from them. Hence, the work of Katraj-Kondhwa road can be completed on time, Dhakne said.

Mundhwa Chowk on Kharadi-Hadapsar road freed of encroachments

Because of some properties located near the Mundhwa Chowk, there used to be huge traffic jams on the Kharadi to Hadapsar road. The civic administration had razed illegal structures in last few days. However, there were legal problems in taking possession of 4/5 properties. Deputy Commissioner of property management department Mahesh Patil, Pratibha Patil, Legal Officer Nisha Chavan, Superintendent Engineer Sahebrao Dandge and Executive Engineer Rohidas Gavhane did a follow-up with property owners and they handed over the properties. The civic administration got the properties vacated and later, razed them. Road widening will be carried out immediately and this will help in preventing traffic jams, Addl Municipal Commissioner Vikas Dhakne said.
