Pune Municipal Corporation’s special drive to administered vaccines is getting an overwhelming response. The special drive is going on at PMC run Kamal Nehru Hospital.

Started last month, the special drive then continued by the civic body due to increasing demand from students going abroad for studies or other reasons.

PMC has administered vaccines to 2,758 beneficiaries till July 1. This includes fully vaccinated include 755 students, 350 working professionals, and four athletes.

Out of 2,758, a total of 1,650 were administered the first dose and 1,109 got both doses.

Students have to send an email to the PMC if they want to get vaccinated before going abroad.

According to reports, there are few atheists who have got vaccines in this special drive will be representing India in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics and paralympic. The list includes paralympic swimmer Suyash Jadhav, Swaroop Unhalkar (para shooter). Golfer Udayan Mane has also among ones who got both the doses at the PMC’s special drive.

The Pune city will further boost its reach by starting a door-to-door vaccination drive which would be a pilot project in the state. Recently The Maharashtra government informed the Bombay High Court that it would soon begin an experimental door-to-door vaccination drive against Covid-19 for people who are specially-abled and for those who are bedridden. This pilot project will be replicated across the state for citizens who are immobile.

According to officials, till now PMC is already conducting ‘Vaccine on Wheels’ a special vaccination drive wherein beneficiaries with special needs are vaccinated at one designated location at home or a hospital or a special rehabilitation center.  They also plan for the door-to-door drive. Also considering the vaccine hesitancy a special drive in slums in Pune has been planned.
