Pune: Balgandharva Rangmandir, Ganesh Kala Krida Manch and Pt Bhimsen Joshi Kala Mandir to remain closed for repairs

Pune: Balgandharva Rangmandir will remain closed for maintenance and repair works from February 16 to March 16. The air-conditioning (AC), interior repairs and toilets for the physically challenged will be set up at Balgandharva Rangmandir during this period. Hence, the auditorium will remain closed during this period. A proposal prepared by the civic body’s cultural department has been sent to the municipal commissioner for approval.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has 14 cultural centres in the city. These auditoriums are rented out to theatre groups, political parties and for cultural programmes. Balgandharva Rangmandir has the highest demand. Many programmes take place here. Moreover, it has become old and needs redevelopment. However, its redevelopment was opposed. Hence, renovation was delayed. Mainly, the AC system needs immediate attention. Building public conveniences, replacing chairs, repairing the stage and works related to the Electricity Department will be done. This was revealed by Deputy Municipal Commissioner Chetna Kerure.

Booking Balgandharva Rangmandir is done in September for January to April. The civic body had booked dates for the foundation day and other programmes. However, these booking dates will be cancelled for repairs and the programmes will be held elsewhere.

Ganesh Kala Krida Manch closure

Ganesh Kala Krida Manch and Pt Bhimsen Joshi Kala Mandir in Aundh will also remain closed for repairs from February 2 to 29.

The works will be expedited during this period.
