Pune: 22 police constables, officers, suspended for misconduct

Pune:  20 constables and 2 offices of Pune City Police are suspended and dismissed for  serious offences like rape, kidnapping, extortion, bribery and misconduct.

Additional Commissioner of Police Ashok Morale said, ‘The constables and officers were found guilty in the departmental inquiry that started in 2014. The eight constables were fired in 2019. An average of six to eight police constables has been dismissed every year in the last five years.

Morale further added, ‘few constables or officers often get involved in organized crime for money. The extortion charges are pressed against a senior police officer while another police officer was charged with rape. The number of cases of bribery in the last few months have increased. This has tarnished the image of the police department and raised questions on its credibility. The courts will continue to hear criminal cases against them.

However, the police’s image has been somewhat cleaned by the police’s support to the common people during the ongoing COVID period.
