Pompeo met with Egyptian Foreign Minister, discussing regional issues

New Delhi: npnews24 Online – US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shawkari to discuss bilateral relations and regional issues. The US State Department said, Pompeo and Shourie on Monday discussed ‘the importance of a strong strategic partnership between the US and Egypt’ and exchanged views on regional issues, including the current situation in Libya.’According to the news agency, he also talked about human rights and the detained Americans in Egypt.

While Washington claims that the two countries have close ties, there are some disputes between the two. Last month, the US allegedly threatened to punish Egypt for its decision to buy fighter jets from Russia. Cairo, meanwhile, did not support certain US policies about Iran and Israel.
