PMPML bus catches fire near Wagholi, all passengers evacuated safely

Pune: A moving Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) bus caught fire on Kharadi bypass near Wagholi on Monday after a two-wheeler rider rammed into it. He was injured in the accident.

According to the information received, the PMPL bus was heading towards Wagholi in Pune-Ahmednagar road around 10.30 am when the incident happened.

Sanjay Kusalkar, incharge of accident department of PMPML, said that  the two-wheeler rider was driving on the wrong side in the BRTS lane at Kharadi bypass chowk.

At that time, the driver noticed a sudden smoke coming from the engine. He stopped the bus immediately and all passengers were evacuated safely before fire engulfed the bus.

The fire fighters and Viman Nagar police rushed to the spot upon receiving information. The fire was later brought under control by the fire brigade.

“As of now, we cannot say what exactly caused the fire. We will launch an investigation into it,” Kusalkar said.
