PCMC Property Tax | Unpaid Taxes Spell Trouble: Pimpri-Chinchwad Property Owners at Risk of Seizure

Pimpri : PCMC Property Tax | Property owners in Pimpri-Chinchwad city have been given a stern warning by the tax collection and taxation department of the municipal corporation. With arrears of more than 25 thousand rupees, a total of 73,207 property owners have been urged to pay their taxes immediately. Failure to comply with this warning will result in a property confiscation campaign commencing on July 24. The announcement of this last warning has left defaulters in a state of panic, as confiscation teams have been prepared and are ready to take action.

In an effort to encourage timely tax payment, the Municipal Corporation had previously offered discounts ranging from 10 to 20 percent for property owners who paid their taxes in full by June 30. This initiative has proven successful, with over three lakh property owners benefiting from the scheme and contributing a total of 447 crores in tax revenue during the first quarter. However, there are still 73,207 properties in the city with outstanding tax arrears amounting to a staggering Rs. 700 crores.

To ensure the collection of these unpaid taxes, the tax collection and taxation department has launched an extensive public awareness campaign through various channels, including messages, phone calls, rickshaws, billboards, and societies. Additionally, pre-seizure notices have been issued to the defaulters, resulting in 7,270 income holders paying a total of Rs. 60 crore 88 lakh. However, there are still 29,100 properties in the city with arrears ranging from 25 to 50 thousand rupees. Notices will be sent to these defaulters by July 21, followed by a comprehensive confiscation campaign commencing on July 24.

The municipality urges property owners to cooperate and fulfill their tax obligations to avoid the unpleasant consequences of property confiscation or disconnection of tap connections. The tax collection efforts will also prioritize the collection of water taxes in addition to property taxes. The department has bolstered their team with meter inspectors and plumbers to ensure a more intense and effective confiscation operation.
