PCMC Property Tax Collection | Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Witnesses Robust Property Tax Collection in First Quarter
Pimpri : PCMC Property Tax Collection | In a positive development, the tax collection and taxation department of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has recorded an impressive collection of Rs. 447 crore in property tax during the first three months of the financial year. More than 50 percent of property owners have promptly paid their taxes within this period.
The city boasts a total of 6,02,203 registered properties, including residential, industrial, non-residential, mixed-use, and vacant land properties. The Tax Collection and Taxation Department of PCMC has been diligently collecting taxes from property owners. The department employed various strategies and initiatives such as public awareness campaigns, confiscation drives, issuing notices to defaulters, water supply restrictions, publication of defaulter lists, partnering with women’s self-help groups for payment distribution, utilizing rickshaws and billboards for public awareness, organizing competitions, and leveraging social media effectively. These efforts have resulted in an impressive tax collection of Rs. 447 crore in the first quarter of the 2023-24 financial year alone.
Out of the total 6,00,000 property owners, a significant number of 3,03,350 property owners, representing fifty percent, have already paid their taxes within three months. These diligent property owners have deposited a total tax amount of Rs. 447.36 crore into the municipal treasury. Notably, on June 30 alone, 14,620 citizens contributed Rs. 30.85 crore towards tax payments. The department’s focus now turns towards collecting taxes from the remaining 50 percent of property owners in the next nine months. Assistant Commissioner Nilesh Deshmukh stated that the department’s objective is to achieve 100 percent recovery of outstanding and current taxes.
Residential property owners have shown exemplary commitment to tax payment, with 2,68,000 residential property owners leading the way. Among the different zones, the highest number of property owners, 39,600, in Wakad zone have paid their taxes, followed by 34,694 in Sangvi, 29,303 in Chinchwad, and 28,368 in Thergaon. The lowest number of tax payments, 4,131, was recorded in the Talwade zone.
“Through innovative ideas and initiatives, we have successfully achieved a remarkable 50 percent tax payment rate within the first three months. Despite challenging activities such as confiscation, there is a clear strategy behind the city’s development,” shared Pradeep Jambhale-Patil, Additional Commissioner of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipality, expressing satisfaction with the progress made.
