Religion has a definite role to play in people’s search for world peace. The moral principles and values contained in the teachings of great religious teachers are essential factors for the reduction and ultimate eradication of greed, hatred, and delusion—which form the root cause of various conflicts and wars, both within and out. Non-violence is the key pillar of all religions. Every religion spoke about peace of world and peace of mind, said French Philosopher Françoise Dastur.

Dastur was speaking at the 6th session of second day of World parliament of science, religion and philosophy on the Pathway to ‘World Peace’ through the confluence of time-tested Philosophies of various Nations and Religions of the World  being held in MIT-ADT University at Vishwarajbaug, Loni campus, Pune.

Present on the occasion were  Dr. Ashok Vohra – Former Professor & Head, Department of Philosophy, Delhi University, Dr. Sharad Deshpande  – Former Professor and Head, Department of Philosophy, University of Pune, Dr. Satyanarayan Sahu – Former Joint Secretary, Rajya Sabha, New Delhi, India, Dr. Sheetala Singh, Eminent Journalist Dr. Ashok Mehta –  Spiritual Leader, Maharashtra, India, Smt. Heather Eaton – Professor, Conflict Studies, Saint Paul University, Ottawa, Canada, Dr. Sachin Sukhsohale – Intensivist, Global Hospital, Mount Abu, Rajasthan, India &  Dr. Vishwanath Karad, President MIT-WPU.

Addressing a large gathering Dastur said, “Religion not only inspires and guides people but also provides them with the necessary tools to reduce greed with the practice of charity; to overcome hate and aversion with loving-kindness; and to remove ignorance with the development of wisdom and insight in order to understand the true nature of beings and “see things as they really are.”

She also added “Material wealth alone cannot bring peace and happiness to the minds of people.”

Dr. Ashok Vohra said, “Religion is an integral part of human existence. If a man likes to have peace of mind, then he must also construct defences of peace in his own mind. The world cannot have peace till countries and people begin to reduce their selfish desires for more and more material possessions. Differences in religious beliefs and practices should not hinder the progress of people working for world peace.”

Heather Eaton said, “The world cannot have peace until nations and people begin to reduce their selfish desires for more and more material possessions, give up their racial arrogance, and eliminate their madness for worldly power. Unity is reduced day by day now there is no unity between mind and body, culture and nature, men and women. We have to work for unity.” She also added that dome built by MIT-WPU is the inspiration of hope.

Dr. Satyanarayan Sahu said “Shiva Tandava (Natraj) represent the zero and infinity at the same time, which is the symbol of peace. All religions teach people to be good and proclaim the brotherhood of mankind. Let religions teach people to be kind, to be tolerant, to be understanding.”

Dr. Ashok Mehta spoke about Prajapita Brahmakumari vishwavidyalaya, he said this vishwavidyalaya is the school of positive thinking, self transformation, has capability of world transformation also.

Dr. Sachin said, “Peace is a beauty of soul, you do not need to borrow peace from others. It’s only you which create peace in yourself and in universe. Today we need positive and pure thought. Peace is not a destination, it’s just a journey.”

The programme was compered by  Prof. Payal Shah & Prof. Swapnil Shirsath.
