Netflix to roll out new Rs 299 Mobile+ plan with HD streaming in India

Netflix is testing a new Mobile+ plan in India. The Rs 299 plan lets users stream content in HD quality on one screen at a time, be it mobile, tablet, or desktop/laptop. The Mobile+ plan is currently being tested on a selected few customers and will be rolled out widely if it gets a positive response.

“We launched the Mobile plan in India to make it easier for anyone with a smartphone to enjoy Netflix. We want to see if members like the added choice Mobile+ brings. We’ll only roll it out long-term if they do.”, Netflix said in a statement.

The company’s current entry-level plan, priced at Rs 499, also provides support for television viewing, while its Rs 199 mobile-only plan supports only standard definition (SD) content. It’s worth noting that Netflix had tested a similar plan priced at Rs 349 last July but it was not officially rolled out to the general public.

Netlfix is also looking at bolstering its content line-up in India with a wide range of shows and movies. From what we know, there are about 40 original Netflix India shows and films that are coming soon.

This new plan will also give good competition to existing streaming services like Disney+ Hotstar, Amazon Prime Video, Zee, Sony and Voot who all have cheaper plans for Indian subscribers.
