Navi Mumbai: Cop died in a road accident on Pune-Solapur highway

Navi Mumbai: A police officer died in an accident in Bhigwan when his car hit a tractor from behind on Pune-Solapur highway on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector Suryankant Gaikwad (54), resident of Uran, native of Salgar Vasti, Solapur. According to the police, Gaikwad was working at CBD Belapur police headquarters. He was on his way to work after a two-day vacation returning from his village.

According to the information given by the police, Gaikwad was transferred from Uran police station to the reserve department at the police headquarters in CBD two years ago. Gaikwad succumbed to his injuries after his car hit the tractor from back. Two of his friends accompanying him were injured in the accident. He was on returning from a holiday from his native village at Salgar in Solapur.

He had left his village on Wednesday night to resume work. Gaikwad’s driver was sitting on the seat next to the driver at the time of the accident while his other two friends were sitting in the back. The side where Gaikwad was sitting hit hard on the back of the tractor.

Gaikwad and his friends were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. After being taken to the hospital, Gaikwad was pronounced dead on arrival. Gaikwad is survived by his wife and two children.
