Pune: Mosquito-Related Diseases | The onset of Monsoon has also increased the likelihood of diseases. According to Dr Suryakant Deokar, assistant health officer of the Pune Municipal Corporation, as the monsoon approaches, civic health officials have issued over 170 notices to builders, housing societies, and slum-dwellers for failing to clear areas where mosquitoes breed on their property, with close to Rs 1 lakh collected as administrative charges from January to June.
Health authorities said they were preparing to combat water-borne and vector-borne illness outbreaks. From January through June, 461 suspected dengue cases were recorded in Pune, with 21 confirmed.
According to data from last year, Pune city recorded at least 5,194 suspected cases of dengue from July to December, with roughly 700 suspected instances of the vector-borne disease in the first six months. Last year, 687 persons tested positive with dengue.
According to Dr. Abhijit Phadnis, assistant director (medical), Pune circle, authorised social health activists, multi-purpose workers, and others were participating in daily monitoring operations. He stated that guidelines have been provided to districts in order for them to develop action plans to combat both vector-borne and water-borne illnesses.
