Maharashtra Administrative Tribunal (MAT) has cancelled the appointments of total 154 Police Sub Inspectors from schedule cast. MAT has cancelled the appointments just next day after taking the oath. ‘How can MAT take such steps?’, such questions are being raised.

According to the 154 PSI officers, this promotion was not from the reservation in promotion. Supreme Court gave freedom to States for deciding the reservation in promotion. That’s why, now everybody has eyes on the decision of Chief Minister.

What is the matter:

MAT stayed on 154 PSI promotion given by government and said that it is illegal. According to the MAT, the reservation in promotion is illegal until state government makes law regarding this. MAT also instructed that, appoint these 154 police officers on their previous post or wait for new appointments. These Police officers are upset, as they have to wait even after the completion of training also.

A few years back, MAT had cancelled the state government’s decision to give reservation in promotion in government service. The state government had challenged the High Court against this. Then, the High Court gave its decision in favor of the MAT in August 2017. State government appealed in Supreme Court (SC) and this matter is still pending in SC.

Government had taken the decision of recruitment of 828 Police Sub- inspectors. This recruitment was done through the MPSC. According to that, selected candidates had been sent to Nashik for training.

Santosh Rathod, MS Radiye and 125 other people appealed that, reservation in promotion is used while filling these posts. According to the people, it is injustice with the candidates who belongs from open category as well as it is the violation of High Court’s decision. After listening to the opinions of these people, the president of MAT justice AH Joshi and member Dikshit had stayed on the posting of PSI by claiming it to be illegal.

These 154 candidates, whose appointments got candled also include the second rank holder. They  have completed their training in Nashik just two days ago.  And they wanted to join the post soon. They also demanded quick action by Chief Minister for solving this  matter.
