A 43-year-old man staying in Magarpatta City has lodged a complaint (671/23) at the Hadapsar police station. The incident took place from April 1 to 26, 2023.

According to the information given by the police, the complainant works in an IT company. He wanted to start his business instead of continuing with his job. He was collecting information from Internet about various businesses. In February, he had filled the form for becoming a dealer of Ather Energy. He got a call from a mobile. He was told that his form had been accepted and an email had been sent to him. He filled the form which had been sent to him.

On the next day, he was informed about the payment schedule of the dealership. It included registration fee, licence, security deposit, stock and agreement totalling ₹62.75 lakh. The complainant trusted them and went on sending money for various reasons. The company was sending the receipts of the payments. Like this, till April 26, he paid ₹21.30 lakh.
Later, he visited the Viman Nagar showroom of Ather Energy. He took the number of the company’s legal sales executive and contacted him. The executive told the complainant that the email ID given to him was not the official email ID of the company and he was being cheated by someone.

The complainant visited the company’s website and collected information. He realised that the email ID received by him was a fake ID and the caller was cheating him. He also realised that the money which he had sent to a bank account was not the company’s official account. When he realised that he had been cheated, he approached the Hadapsar police station. PI Vishwas Dagale is probing the case.
