Man attempts suicide after facing harassment from Paithan Panchayat Samiti’s Group Development Officer

Aurangabad: Sanjay Haribhau Shinde, a village development officer working at Bidkin Gram Panchayat, attempted suicide Tuesday morning (January 19) after getting fed up with Londhe, a group development officer from Paithan’s Panchayat Samiti. He died at Citycare Hospital in Aurangabad around 10 am on Thursday (January 21).

The members of the Gramsevak Union have alleged that Paithan Panchayat Samiti’s group development officer V. D. Londhe demanded money every month from all GramSevaks in Paithan Taluka. He also demanded money from the checks drawn from the Finance Commission. He collected the records of the Gramsevaks from Gram Panchayat who did not fulfill the demand and also harassed them.

The Union stated that if strict action is not being taken against Londhe, all work Gram Panchayat of Aurangabad district will be stopped from Thursday, January 21. All members of the Maharashtra State Gram Sevak Union have demanded that Londhe, should also be questioned by the CID, for inciting suicide.

Earlier, the group development officer Londhe had harassed several Gram Sevaks while he was working in Samudrapur Panchayat Samiti in Wardha district. In another incident, an investigation is also underway for Londhe’s alleged involvement into the suicide case of Gramsevak Buddhadev Mhaske.
