Law and order situation worsening in Mundhwa-Keshav Nagar? Senior PI busy trying to get extension

On April 30, a senior citizen was killed because he asked some people whether they were consuming drugs in Gurukripa Society in Keshav Nagar. Only a few days after this incident, a paan shop owner was seriously injured after he was assaulted by three people with a sharp weapon at Lonkar Chowk in Keshav Nagar area. There is speculation in police circles that a senior police inspector is busy trying to get an extension when the law and order situation is serious in the limits of Mundhwa police station.
On April 30, 2023, at 3 pm, some youths with criminal background were soking drugs at Gaikwad Vasti near the house of Ravindra Gaikwad. When Gaikwad asked them what they were doing, they assaulted him with a sickle and smashed his head with a stone. Gaikwad had only asked the youths what they were doing and they killed an innocent man. The incident created a flutter in police circles and the police had arrested some persons for the murder.
Local residents observed a bandh on May 1 and indirectly issued a warning to police officials to control the crime in the area. However, this seems to have no effect on the Mundhwa police. Persons with criminal background move around openly with sharp weapons in Mundhwa, Keshav Nagar, Lonkar Chowk and other areas, say local residents. Only four days had passed after the Gaikwad’s death and on April 3, 2023, at 6.30 pm, Adi Kadam, Prashant Kamble and their accomplice assaulted paan shop owner Sitaram Ashok Sathe (21).
A law abiding and innocent citizen is killed in broad daylight and a paan shop owner is assaulted at 6.30 pm and this is a cause for concern. This shows that the there is no fear of police in the area.
When such crimes are happening in Mundhwa, there is speculation in police circles that a senior police inspector is trying his level best to ensure that his name doesn’t figure in the list of officers who are going to be transferred. There is also a talk that the inspector has visited the DG office many times to seek an extension.
The law and order situation in Mundhwa-Keshav Nagar areas raises concern. Local residents have demanded that the police should create fear in the minds of criminals and control the crime in the area. While speaking to a member of Policenama Online, local residents spoke about the worsening law and order situation in the area. They demanded that senior police officers should pay attention to problems in the area.
After a PI completes a tenure of six years in a police commissionerate, he is transferred outside the commissionerate. However, some officials, who have got a ‘cream’ posting, make efforts to get a one-year extension to stay in commissionerate’s area. Some of them also visit the DG office in Mumbai to seek an extension because they are fond of monthly meter of 25-30. Hence, they make all efforts to get an extension by visiting the DG office in Mumbai.
