Large Number of Punekars savored the flavors of Gatari in a grand way

Punekars have celebrated Gatari in a grand way, consuming almost 10-12 tons of fishes, 400-450 tons chicken and 2000 tons of mutton. Instead of going to a hotel of partying out many of the city dwellers celebrated staying in and with home cooked food on Friday.

Although the Ashadha month is ending on Saturday, many of the people avoid eating non-vegetarian as per the Hindu tradition. This is why Gatari was celebrated a day prior.

On that note, the fish market of Ganesh Peth, Mutton market of Kasba Peth, the Fishmarket of Paud Phata, Chhatrapati Shivaji Market in Army Area witnessed a sea of customers.

Thakur Pardeshi, who has a shop in Ganesh Peth told that because of low rainfall there was a lot many stocks of fishes coming from the West Coast. As the stock was sufficient as compared to the demand it helped us to keep reasonable prices. Many shopkeepers said that this time not only the hotel owners but the homemakers also came in large numbers.

Rupesh Pardeshi another shopkeeper told that there was a huge demand for chicken and mutton meat as well. There was a lot of demand than usual, 400-450 tons of chicken sold out today.

The President of Mutton Vendor Shopkeeper Association Prabhakar Kamble said that he was a little disappointed as the demand for meat although it was better than the normal days less than accepted. Every year on the eve of Gatari the demand is in surpass. At least the sell of mutton was on the great level. Altogether 2000 tons of mutton was sold.

Why is Garati celebrated –

Ashadha is the fourth month of in the Hindu calendar which coincides with June/July. This month is very significant for Bengal, Nepal, and Odisha. As its monsoon, Nepal starts with their festival marking the start of a rice plantation. As far as Odisha is concerned Ram yatra is held in this month.

Shravan month is followed by the Ashadha month. Shravan brings with it a spree of Hindu festival. The two main festivals being the Ganesh Utsav and Navratri. When no-vegetarian food is totally banned. Even some hardcore meatball loves to avoid consuming it.

This is why Gatari is celebrated to enjoy and relish the mouth-watering dishes, which are made with special Indian spices and rich in numerous flavors.
