Indian content head of Netflix resigns

NP NEWS 24 ONLINE- Netflix, which is an American media-services provider headquartered in Los Gatos, California, has become the mobile application having world’s largest number of subscriptions for watching TV episodes, online shows.

Now, Swati Shetty who is the head of Indian content shown on Netflix and was the first to join Indian team of Netflix has decided to quit after two years and five months.

Swati Shetty, director of international originals and acquisitions at Netflix who stepped down from American streaming service has worked at the over-the-top (OTT) video platform.

A statement from the company said, “We can confirm that Swati Shetty has decided to leave Netflix”.

Shetty has been a part of various feature films and shows on Netflix in year 2018. The shows include Lust Stories, Love per Square Foot produced by Ronnie Screwvala or be it Leena yadav’s Rajma Chawal.

Earlier, Shetty was also a president at Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms Ltd., associate director at the Disney ABC Televsion Group, executive director at the Indian arm of The Walt Disney Studios and manager at Star India Pvt Ltd.

Shetty had announced a seven-film slate for 2019 in an event for Asia-Pacific region in the month of November which included various projects coming up in the next year.

A Firebrand co-produced with actor Priyanka Chopra’s Purple Pebble Productions based on love, sex and relationships featuring Usha Jadhav and other actors in it.

Netflix still has its various upcoming shows to be featured pending which includes a Hollywood production called ‘Hotel Mumbai’ featuring Anupam Kher playing out in a mix of Punjabi, Persian and Urdu.

Apart from this, there is Marathi film, ’15 August’ which is to be produced by Madhuri Dixit which is a non-Hindi language content.

Also, ‘Chopsticks’ starring Abhay Deol and Mithila Palkar, ‘Bulbul’ with Anushka Sharma’s Clean Slate productions.

After, Shetty stepping down lets hope the shows are released successfully and without any hindrance!
