Death of NCC cadet during firing practice: Instructor sentenced to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment
Pune : NpNews24 Online – Pune Crime News | A 13-year-old NCC cadet had died after being hit by a bullet on his head during firing practice. A Pune court held his instructor guilty and sentenced him to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹5 lakh. The judgement was delivered by Sessions Judge PP Jadhav. The instructor has been identified as Amod Anil Ghanekar (27), a resident of Mehunpura, Shaniwar Peth.
The deceased was Parag Devendra Ingle (13). The incident had happened at NCC’s head office located on Senapati Bapat Road in February 2013. Parag Ingle was a student of Loyola School located at Pashan. On the day of the incident, Ghanekar was teaching the cadets about how to fire in a sleeping position. However, suddenly, Parag got up and a bullet hit his head.
An FIR of manslaughter had been registered against Amod Ghanekar at the Deccan police station. After completing an investigation, the police had submitted a chargesheet in the court. Ghanekar had made an appeal that he should be excluded from the case but it had been rejected in September 2014. The Public Prosecutor was Adv Rajesh Kavediya.
The court ruled that from the fine amount, ₹3 lakh should be given to Parag Ingle’s family as compensation and if Amod Ghanekar does not pay the fine, he will have to spend one more year in jail, the court’s order stated.
