Cyber Crime In Pune | Enhanced Cyber Lab to Combat Rising Cyber Crimes in Pimpri-Chinchwad

Cyber Crime In Pune | The city of Pimpri-Chinchwad is witnessing a significant rise in cyber crimes, posing a major challenge for the local police force. However, there is good news on the horizon, as plans are underway to establish an updated cyber lab in the commercial complex building of the Municipal Corporation in Chinchwad. The government has given technical approval, along with cost estimates amounting to two crores, for the creation of this state-of-the-art facility. Once operational, this cyber lab will provide the city police with the necessary tools and resources to effectively combat various types of online fraud.

Design and Functionality of the Cyber Lab

The proposed cyber lab, to be housed within the commercial complex in Chinchwad, will comprise multiple sections catering to different aspects of cyber crime prevention and investigation. The office of the cyber cell will feature a dedicated room for meetings and discussions among police officers and enforcers. Additionally, a specialized cyber lab will be established for crime investigation and technical analysis purposes. This advanced infrastructure will facilitate efficient handling and processing of digital evidence, helping law enforcement officials in their pursuit of cyber criminals.

Allocation of Funds

Experts estimate that the establishment of the latest cyber cell infrastructure will require a total investment of approximately two crores and ten thousand rupees. The allocated funds will be divided as follows: 42 lakhs for basic infrastructure, 92 lakhs and 10 thousand for forensic software, and 68 lakhs for hardware procurement. This comprehensive financial allocation aims to equip the cyber lab with cutting-edge technologies and software that will assist in cyber crime prevention, detection, and investigation.

Addressing Manpower Challenges

Currently, the Cyber Department is headed by Senior Inspector Dr. Sanjay Tungar. He is supported by four officers at the Faujdar/Assistant Inspector rank and 17 employees. However, this limited workforce is insufficient to effectively handle the rising number of cyber crimes in the area. Consequently, senior officials are facing the challenging task of managing the workload generated by the 18 police stations under the Police Commissionerate, while utilizing the available manpower within the cyber cell.

Training Police Officers to be Cyber Experts

Recognizing the need for additional expertise, Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey has taken a proactive step to address the issue. The commissionerate has commenced the process of selecting 108 police officers with science backgrounds and prior experience in handling cyber crimes. These officers will undergo specialized training to enhance their cyber crime investigation skills, ultimately transforming them into cyber experts. This strategic initiative reflects the commitment of the police force to tackle the growing menace of online fraud and cyber crimes.

With the impending establishment of an updated cyber lab and the training of additional personnel, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Department is gearing up to effectively counter the surge in cyber crimes. The integration of advanced technology, enhanced forensic capabilities, and skilled cyber experts will undoubtedly strengthen the law enforcement agencies’ ability to safeguard citizens and bring cyber criminals to justice.
