CM Uddhav Thackeray takes first shot of COVID-19 vaccine in Mumbai

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday received the first shot of COVID-19 vaccine. Thackeray got himself vaccinated against the novel coronavirus disease under the second phase of the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive.

The CM took the jab in JJ hospital in Mumbai. After taking the vaccine, CM Thackeray urged the people to follow social distancing, wear masks and avoid unnecessary travel. He also said that there is no need to fear or have confusion about COVID-19 vaccine.

The Central government has, starting March 1, expanded the vaccination drive to include people above the age of 60 and those aged 45 or above and having specified co-morbidities.

Maharashtra on Wednesday recorded 13,659 new coronavirus cases, the highest one-day spike this year, which took the state’s caseload to 22,52,057. With 54 fatalities, the death toll stood at 52,610.

Today, amid rising COVID-19 cases, the authorities in Nagpur declared a complete lockdown in the city from March 15 to 21. Nagpur Guardian Minister Nitin Raut said during the period of the lockdown, only essential services like vegetable shops and milk booths will be allowed to remain open.
