BPCL Witnesses a monstrous blast, residents from 4 Km gets affected

A massive chemical blast took place in Mumbai on Wednesday, in which more than five people were injuried.

The incident took place at around 3 pm at the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) located at the TATA Power, Mahul road, Gavan Gaon, Chembur, Mumbai.

According to police, the noise of the chemical blast was so clamorous that the whole areas and the all the residents were affected by it, and a huge amount of smoke is emitting from the plant. The window panes as glasses of the houses 4 km away from the plant were shaking.

Almost 18 fire brigades rushed to the spot which included, seven fire engines, two foam tenders, and two jumbo tankers were rushed to the spot. It seem such blast limited the hydrogen tankers at the plant situated in the BPCL.

The areas where the explosion  took place is very sensitive as there are lakhs of people living there and many other plants are also located nearby. There are many encroachments and a residential area, who are currently in shock by the incident.

As many as 300 – 400 employees were stuck on the spot. Initially, the network was lost so there was no contact and no news about the employees. But there are talks that some of the employees are reduced and moved to a safe place. The part of the plant where the blast took place around 200 employees were working there. According to sources, there are an enormous amount of casualties, as around 20 ambulances were sent to the place. Although the proper number of casualties is not yet revealed. But till now 4-5 seriously injured employees were taken by the ambulances.

The BPCL plant was established in the year 1952 and till date, it is known as one of the prominent companies of India. after 1860 when a wave of industrial revolution started they many other competitors rose. In 1886 the company was started in Scotland and later it’s enterprises were opened at Rangoon. Finally, on January 24, 1976, the company was taken over by the Indian Government and formed Bharat Refineries Limited. On 1st August 1977, it was renamed Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited. Around 12 MNT of oil is refined in the refinery.
