Robbery after giving lift gang busted by Crime Branch Unit 2

Officials from the Crime Branch Unit 2 of Pune city police have nabbed two men who used to give lift to people and then looted them. Cops have solved a similar case of robbery wherein the duo had robbed a doctor of cash and ornaments totally worth Rs 1.42 lakhs in 2016.

Acting on tip-off received by Police Inspector Gajanan Pawar, in-charge of Unit 2, a trap was laid at Kharadi Bypass chowk and the two persons arrested while they were looking for prospective passenger.

The accused persons have been identified as Sachin Vishnu Khamkar (32), a resident of Premdhan Hudco in Ahmednagar and Vijaykumar Bansi Rodge (40) of Pawarmala in Shirur.

Police have recovered three gold rings, one gold chain, totally worth Rs 1.42 lakhs which were looted from the doctor. Also the Maruti Alto car used in the robbery has been seized.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Pradip Deshpande, DCP (crime) Shirish Sardeshpande, ACP (Crime I) Sameer Shaikh, supervised the investigation team included ASI Tambe, and policemen Raju Kedari, Kiran Pawar, Kiran Wagge, Prasad Jangilwad, and constable Mukund Mahajan.

Case details –

In June 2016, the 33-year-old doctor from Shirur, who was on his way to Aurangabad to meet his wife, reached the Shivajinagar bus stand from Shirur around 2 am on June 25, 2016. While he was

waiting for a bus, a cab driver approached him and asked where he wanted to go. When the doctor said that he was waiting for bus to Aurangabad, the cab driver promptly offered him a lift in his car.

Meanwhile, the driver approached one more person near the bus stand and offered him a lift too. The driver stopped the car near Sancheti hospital . The driver and the other passenger threatened to kill him and forcefully removed three gold rings from his fingers and Rs 6,100 cash from his wallet. They later dumped him on Pune-Ahmednagar highway. The doctor lodged a complaint with Vishrantwadi police station, and the case was transferred to Shivajinagar police station for further investigation.
