Birth of World Famous ‘Patiala Peg’ :
The famous ‘Patiala Peg’ in liquor is given by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala in 1920. In the cricket match with the British XI, the Maharaja had given a tough competition to Britishers. Patiala Peg was also born in this match party.

The game of cricket started in India because of Maharaja Rajinder Singh. Maharaja Rajinder Singh had a keen interest in sport. Therefore, he used to call world famous cricket players in Patiala so that people could be trained in cricket and equipped with new techniques.

Once again he also invited great players like Rhodes, Newman, Robinson to Patiala. It is said that the Maharaja was so happy with his huge innings that he started the party by putting whiskey in the glasses himself.The amount of alcohol in the glass was almost double. When Colonel Douglas was given a glass to say cheers, he eagerly asked the Maharaja about that peg.

The Maharaja laughingly said that ‘you are in Patiala, my guest, nothing less than ‘Patiala Peg’ will go with the toast.’ Then both of them emptied their glass in a single sip amidst the laughing noises.
