Bihar : Former DGP Gupteshwar Pandey fails to get ticket, decided not to contest elections

Patna: After retiring from Bihar DGP post, former DGP of the state Gupteshwar Pandey was speculated to contest, but on Wednesday he is not contesting the Bihar assembly polls. In response to this, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh exclaimed strongly that BJP might have not given ticket to Pandey due to fear of questions raised on it by people and opposition.

Dekhmukh pointed out that giving party tickets to Gupteshwar Pandey is a matter of the party but we did ask will BJP leaders would campaign for him. Perhaps he was denied a ticket due to fear of rising questions.

On Wednesday, the former DGP wrote on his Facebook page that ‘I am disturbed by the phone calls of many well-wishers. I also understand their concern and troubles. After my retirement, everyone expected that I would contest, but this time I am not contesting the assembly elections. There is nothing to be disappointed. Be patient. ‘

It is worth noting that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s party Janata Dal (United) for the Bihar assembly elections on Wednesday released the final list. JDU did not give ticket to former Bihar DGP Gupteshwar Pandey, who took voluntary retirement to join Nitish Kumar’s party. His attempt to contest the Assembly elections from Buxar seems to have been jeopardized as this constituency falls in BJP’s quota. JDU has two assembly seats in Rajpur and Dumraon in Buxar district, while the remaining two, Buxar and Brahmapur, have gone to BJP.

Recently, Gupteshwar Pandey, an Indian Police Service officer from 1987 batch was in headlines over the Sushant Singh Rajput Death case.. He served as Director General of Police of Bihar. He took voluntary retirement on 22 September 2020, five months before completion of his service tenure in order to contest in upcoming Bihar elections. He was succeeded by Sanjeev Kumar Singha.
