‘Avoid exposure to rains’; this climate might make you fall ill- Doctors

The city known for its soothing climate, which is the major attraction for the tourists, is now creating a trouble in the life of the Puneites. Since past few days, such climatic condition is making the citizens of Pune invest more on their ailment to cure fever.

While most of the doctors are advising the people of Pune, to avoid exposure to the surroundings as much as you can, people still have to go out and work due to their commitments. Amidst of all these troubles, wastes are not being collected properly and are being dumped throughout the streets creating a hazardous environment Children including the adults are falling severely ill and are suffering through a lot of diseases.

The npnews24 correspondent had a conversation with some doctors of Pune, and this is what they have to say on increasing numbers of patients suffering through cold and fever:

Dr. Sanjay Sonawale, E.N.T surgeon of Sassoon hospital said, “The number of patients suffering from viral fever, cold and cough has increased especially during this season. Change of atmosphere has given rise to fungal infections; mostly dampness of clothes is causing the common cold. If not treated in time and not taken proper rest, the condition might become even worse.

Adding to that he said, “Germs might attack easily if proper care is not taken. Then viral infection gets converted to bacterial infection, and then you start feeling feverish. Such climate may also give rise to skin and fungal infections if wet clothes are not removed. Change in climatic conditions is the major cause.” He also advised people to consume more hot fluids.

Dr. Sarang Phadke, who owns an ayurvedic clinic in Kothrud area said, “The type of dump and chilled environment might cause throat infections leading to fever. Avoid drinking chilled water. To take precautions in this season is difficult, use raincoats for avoiding getting wet in rains if at all you want to go out. Wet clothes should be changed immediately. The cold might also catch if came in contact with infected person. The viral infections are although curable by antibiotics and medicines”

Pune based Dr. Ganesh Jagtap who owns Shree Swami Samarth Clinic, Bhor said, “Avoid getting wet in rains, gargling with lukewarm water, children are prone to such diseases, body mechanism tries to fight with infection for about 24-48 hours and antibiotics should not be taken until then. We strictly prohibit people not to take antibiotics without prescription of doctors, as consuming such might negatively affect human body mechanism.”

Dr. Pooja Khirid, Pune based medical officer of Health Wellness Center said, “It is all the lifestyle that matters.” She told people to understand that they need to change their lifestyle according to the climatic conditions as leading an unhealthy lifestyle is more likely to make you fall ill.”

Dr. Ashish Jani who owns a Pune based Om Clinic, Donge, said, “Viral fever patients, symptomatic ayurvedic treatment. He believes in giving Ayurvedic treatment to people. The patients suffering from a cough, cold and fever are treated via ayurvedic medicines and anti-biotic are preferred to be given after 4-5 days if not cured.

Symptoms:   Feeling dizzy, and want to miss a day’s work at the office? You must do so to avoid:

  • Body ache and tiredness
  • A sore throat
  • Stomach ache and Diarrhea
  • Feeling feverish

Prevention:

  • Drink sufficient fluids: Drink plenty of water to fight germs in this climatic condition.
  • Avoid exposure to rains: Try not to get wet in rains as it gives the opportunity to the germs to multiply.
  • Avoid crowded places: Contact with people might provoke the infection-causing germs.
  • Taking rest and adequate sleep: Adequate sleep is really essential for the body to work properly.
  • Maintain hygiene: Using hand wash, and proper cleanliness should be maintained. Wastes, leftovers, food kept open, should be taken care of as such may generate flies and affect your health.
  • Avoid consuming fast food: Golgappa, Bhel puri, and other fast foods should be avoided this season.
