15 killed as truck overturns in Jalgaon; PM condoles death

Incident happened on Ankleshwar Barhanpur State Highway in Yaval taluka; 15 dead, 6 injured

Jalgaon: As many as 15 laborers were killed and 6 injured with 2 critically injured after a truck carrying papayas overturned at Kingaon in Yaval taluka in Dhule district, on Monday. According to the information received, the truck full of papayas was heading towards Raver, when the driver lost control and overturned on the highway, leaving 21 laborers trapped below it. The accident took place on the Ankleshwar Barhanpur State Highway at Kingaon around 2 am.

People rushed to the spot and tried to evacuate the labourers. However, all of them were crushed under the truck and 15 of them died on the spot. Reportedly, 10 of them were from the same family. Injured have been shifted to a rural hospital in Yaval. All the laborers are said to be residents of Abhonda Kerale and Raver in Raver taluka.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday mourned the loss of lives in a road accident in Maharashtra. He also prayed for early recovery of those injured.

“Heart-wrenching truck accident in Jalgaon, Maharashtra. Condolences to the bereaved families. May the injured recover at the earliest,” PM Modi tweeted.
