Day by day the fuel price is witnessing a steep rise and on Tuesday it continued to soar above Rs 90/litre mark in Mumbai, with per litre costing Rs 90.22. Diesel prices also hit new rise for the second consecutive day, retailing at Rs 78.69 per litre in Mumbai. In Delhi, per litre of petrol costs Rs 82.86, while the diesel is priced at Rs 74.12 per litre. The fuel prices are the highest in Maharashtra due to the heavy VAT levied on them.

NPnews24 spoke to youth who shared their thoughts on this:

Ayush Agrawal, a Pune based photojournalist said,  “Earlier, I used to go to college on my bike, but since when the government increased the fuel prices, I am using bicycle instead of bike so that I can save my pocket money.  It it’s not affordable for me, how come the common citizens will be able to afford it? What about labors and other poor people? How they can sustain in such high inflation? As government had prior elections promised to remove poverty.”

Govind Mule (21), IT engineer who hails from Aurangabad currently working in Pune said, “Because of this hike in petrol, I can’t save money out from my small salary. My parents do expect something from me and  I should support my family at this stage. Sometimes I feel very bad about it. As well as, I am also not been able to use my bike daily.”

Student Deepak Jaiswal (19) said, “I have to depend on my family for my all expenditures. I am not able to fulfill my other needs, as I spend more money on petrol.  Now, I am thinking to use the public transport facility instead of any other vehicle. This government does not have proper planning about anything, this hike in fuel price shows their carelessness about commoners.”

While another youth Kalpesh Nukte said, “We only focus on negative, on the other side this hike in fuel prices forces people to use public transport vehicles. It also avoids the unnecessary use of bikes and traffic chaos.  Why aren’t we focusing on the convenience of people? We should think in another way too as rate of other products are also decreasing. Petrol should be included in GST so that the rate of petrol will be equal in all states of India.”

Businessman Sachin Navgire who works in Event management company said, “I have to spend around Rs 100 per day on petrol only then where is acchhe din?  The nation is witnessing a hike in prices of petrol and diesel, Because of this unbearable hike in prices of fuel, common citizens have to suffer through the critical economic condition.”

Owner of Mayur Travels Shivam Umbarkar said about the fuel price hike, “It is impossible to make business with this price hike as people are reluctant to give more money. One year earlier we used to charge 11 rupees per kilometer at that time the price of Petrol and Diesel was around Rs 70 to 75 and now it is around Rs 90. With some companies, we have already made the contract and we cannot breach at this moment. We do business with them in the loss. For other trips which we used to do earlier, we let it go as we can’t bear the losses.”

Siddeshwar Gutte (30), milk businessman from Parali Vaijanath said, “The prices are increasing day by day and rising too. Initially, I use to go on the bicycle and deliver milk but the use of bike made it easier to deliver the milk and make some good business. But now, I think I need to go back to the bicycle. As in milk business all we earn is the profit of Rs two to three per litre but such additional amount is going in fuel.”

Yogesh Sangle (25) hails from Sangamner and resides in Pune. He is preparing for competitive examination said, “ I do not know what to do as I am perusing for competitive examinations and studying. With a limited amount which I get from family, I have to manage mess, daily expenses, rental, and others. In which fuel prices are increasing which has left me with no money. I am planning to travel in the city via public transport but such conditions are also not good. The government needs to bring the solution as we have a lot of hope from the government as they have to promise the same issues.”

Ankur Mukherjee (24) from Kolkata and working as Digital Manager in Brandwizz Communication said, “The prices have reached the sky and public transport buses are also not in good condition that we cannot travel. The government needs to come up with a solution rather than merely increasing the price.”

Deepankar Nikam student said, “Petrol is an integral part of daily lives of common people. Due to the increase in petrol, the budget of general public like ours has collapsed. The government should give relief to the general public by reducing the prices of petrol or else the population outbreak is inevitable.”
